[GROUP RELATED]
Update: This part is now obviously obsolete.
Because of private reasons, I will temporarily deactivate my account for a month or two. During that time the group will remain unmaintained. I will eventually return.
And it appears that our main admin Sofarinrunning has returned too!
Another update: Her return didn't last long.
["FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS" RAMBLING]
I know this had been discussed many times all around this site, but there are always some who don't seem to get it. Why people keep uploading screenshots here is beyond me. Some have entire galleries of just screenshots. Newbies, art thieves, trolls aside. No I, am not talking about that "answering to comments" thing, those might be creative. I am talking about when someone uploads his/her favourite moments from his/her favourite cartoon/films/games/cover arts/whatever.
If you didn't know, this is an art site, where the users can display to the world their own creations, not an image sharing site. BUT there is an image sharing function of Deviantart called Stash. I can only guess that people upload screenshots because of the social aspect of the site, and they think it is like sharing on Facebook or Google Plus. Or they want to ramp up their number of deviations. Please upload those things to Sta.sh and share it's link in a journal on your DA profile.
Besides that I find this kind of activity on DA quite... mediocre(?), guess what, it is not even legal and is violating the DeviantArt Terms of Service. Yes, theoretically this counts just as much an art theft as taking a fellow user's deviation (or from another site), whether it is free to take*, or you reference to the original, does not matter. Also, it could get DA and/or the user in trouble the same way, if the copyright holder takes action ("SOPA"s ahoy, but we not even have to go that far). If it is not your property, do not upload it here. Recoloring/slightly modifying it does not make it an exception.
*(There are the bases and stock images that are free to use as base material in creating new original works. But ask the creator before anything.)
If you feel urgent to mark and share your favourite anystuff here...
- If it is on DA, guess what, use the +Favourite button and it's related functions.
- If it is somewhere else on the web, embed or link to it in a Journal. Or, upload it to an image sharing/storage site first if it is not on the web, then write a linking Journal.
- For your most beloved/funniest single piece of image that is not yours, there is the "Webcam" widget feature that can be turned on on any account, whether you subscribed to Premium membership or not. Premium members can make custom widgets for many things.
If you have questions on how to do any those above, go to
A reading about Copyright on DA: fav.me/d5wllrh
So again, if something is not your work, do not upload it here.
When you see people with screenshots as deviations, notify them kindly.
...Aaannd there is another common dispute that just came to my mind. I don't get when people are ranting on that someone copied the style of somebody. If not a concrete existing deviation was taken, or original character (OC)/intellectual property (IP) knowingly plagued, then why does this matter? You can not claim a style as your own property! Maybe someone just wants to learn a new technique. Or there is possibility that someone else also developed the same style.

Quick Update
Short idea/update
1)I'm not on my computer or dA extremely often. I'm usually on mobile and I have yet to figure out how to check group galleries/journals on my device. Eventually I'll figure it out.
2)I'm going to try and compile a list/cross list of bewares and post a SINGLE journal that would be updated every other week. Can't make promises or give a possible date b/c, well depressions a butt and it's quite a list to go through..even more so since I want to do alphabetically and I am one person.
Anyways a few links to new (old) post on AB lj specifically on dA. Again, don't harass the users. Just decide if you want to block, avoid contact
More links Possibilities
Do NOT harass/spam/bug/annoy any problematic clients/artists if they are listed. Just quietly block, shake your head and move on.

I've considered "closing" this group down and moving it to a different group, one where I'd be able to get some help and make it a bit more "official"..perhaps even to the point it actually becomes an affiliate of the Artist Beware community on LiveJournal.
One of the main things I've considered for the new group is it being a bit more than just a place to warn others. A place for those that off

A few things I would like to address from the original note though.
1) He always ask you a full payment before getting a sketch
This isn't an uncommon practice. However, if one isn't 75% sure or more they will get it done in a timely manner, they should take payment after the sketch or when it's done.
In the latter's case, the artist would send a low-res downsized watermarked file for preview and confirmation. Once the client gives the okay, they can then have them send payment before delivering the high res full image and any variations of it.

Commissions 101
Unfortunately, there seems to be a rise in questionable business ethnics, bad practices, and a general lack of forethought..
Which leads to interactions that tend to go very wrong real quick.
So here are some things to consider when you commission someone or offer commissions.
Right off the bat, since this one is something a lot of people do. This one needs to be emphasized which is why bold and caps...

And while back then I was rambling here in a "Hurr, don't do this, do that!" manner, I feel a little bit related and considerable what this deviant's journal is saying (I link it in for anyone who would lurk here for some reason):
